The Balluff BUS004J (full order code: BUS R06K1-XB-02/015-S75G) is a compact ultrasonic sensor in a block-style (cubic) housing. It provides reliable, non-contact distance measurement or object detection, ideal for fill level monitoring, height/sag measurement, position detection, and presence sensing in solid, powdery, or fluid media.
Key Specifications

Pin Assignment (M8 4-pin, view on sensor)
- Pin 1 (brown): +UB (20–30 V DC)
- Pin 2 (white): Sync (synchronization input)
- Pin 3 (blue): 0 V (GND)
- Pin 4 (black): Analog output (4–20 mA)
Features and Setup Notes
- Teach-in Functions — Use the button to set measurement windows, choose rising or falling output curve, lock the button, or reset to factory settings (factory default: rising characteristic across the full range). Avoid using pointed tools on the button.
- Mounting — Uses M3 screws or included mounting plate (max torque 0.5 Nm).
- Applications — Excellent for challenging environments where optical sensors may fail (e.g., dusty, transparent, or reflective materials). It works contactlessly on granules, liquids, powders, etc.
- Notes — Optimum accuracy after ~30 min warm-up due to self-heating. Clean the sensing surface if soiled. The sensor supports external synchronization to avoid crosstalk between multiple units.
